Developed by the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) with major input from the National Business Aviation Association as well as from Business Aviation associations globally, International Standard for Business Aircraft Operation (IS-BAO) provides a structure for incorporating the best safety and security practices used by top corporate flight departments in North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Fashioned after the format of ISO-9001:2000 but avoiding the bureaucracy of ISO certification, IS-BAO enables a flight department to develop a process and procedures manual that documents its safety and security culture and promotes more efficient methods of providing transportation via business aircraft. IS-BAO also is a method for auditing flight department procedures to assure quality and to promote continuous improvement. Adoption of the IS-BAO protocol may lead to other advantages, such as an alternate means of compliance with regulations pending in the areas of security and international operations.
